Government wants your suggestions for cutting excessive business regulation
30/07/2010 07:28
Businesses are being given a chance to tell the Government which laws and regulations should be repealed or changed, via a newly launched website.
The Coalition Government is looking to get rid of unnecessary laws and regulations – for both individuals and businesses – and has launched the ‘Your Freedom’ website where ideas for removing laws and regulations, rather than ideas for creating them, can be suggested. As well as aiming to restore civil liberties and repealing unnecessary laws that affect people in all aspects of their lives, the Government is committed to cutting business regulation, and is especially keen to hear from businesses employing fewer than 250 people, as regulations can stifle small businesses in particular.
The key question that businesses are being asked to address is, “Which regulations do you think should be removed or changed to make running your business or organisation as simple as possible?”
Once ideas have been submitted, users of the site are able to comment and rate their favourite ideas. Relevant departments will respond to the most popular workable ideas, and the Government will give regular progress updates. The aim is that the Government will roll back the unnecessary regulations that are strongly disliked, and the views expressed on the website will be taken into account as part of the Freedom Bill in the autumn.
